Layout devoted to different learned styles

Different drawings of Tiffany

We were to chose four different techniques that we had learned through out the semester and display them as we learned from our composition portion of the class. I enjoyed combining the different things that we have learned and putting them into one project.

Shadings of Cubes

I enjoy shading and for this assignment we were to use three cubes that we made and shade all of the shadows that were created on and around the cubes. The original works are much better than the scanned images.

Shading Assignments- Second Set

I chose to post all of my drawings instead of the ones that I felt were best because I appreciate seeing all of my work. Due to my shading the images here do not look the same as the originals. I found these drawings that were done in ink to be a somewhat difficult because the ink is more permanent and you have to rely on the density of the lines instead of the actual shade. Personally I still think I need more work with the hatching, cross-hatching, and random shading techniques. I do still think that I am best at the smudge technique. Before this was really what I thought that shading was but now I know that there are multiple techniques that can be used.

Shading and more shading

Add Video

This was an assignment out of our text book. We were learning about different techniques of shading and the tools in which to complete them. The three different techniques shown here is hatching, cross hatching, and random. I did realize that after I had finished all the sphere, cone, and cube drawings that I did the light source in the wrong spot on the sphere. It should have been more towards the top left. We also had to try the drawings in both pencil and pen. I personally think I did better with the pencil than the pen. With the pencil you can use different leads that are available and make different tones and shades. The disadvantage of the pen is that the ink is only one color so you have to rely on the density of the strokes to create a lighter look. This was difficult for me. The only time that I have used ink for a shading assignment was in High School my sophomore year. The technique that I used was stippling. I am hoping that I will get better at shading with a pen because I think the end result of a pen and ink drawing is very neat.

First attempts at Shading

The style of shading that I like the best and the only one that have worked with is smudge. We were told that we need to try two different types of shading for these two drawings. I chose hatching for the bottom drawing and cross-hatching for the top drawing. They actually look better on this blog than the actual paper on which I did them.
Hopefully I will get better at these styles.

Zine of Products

This is a zine full of ten different products. The objective of this assignment was to do design research and work on page layouts. The project was fun to create. I tried to keep a constant theme or look throughout the entire zine.

Ad Design and Layout

For this assignment we had to find a ad layout in a magazine that we liked and try to recreate it in a new ad trying to sell our studio class. The bottom ad I liked because the picture is cut out in the shape of a letter, the first letter of the company. The ad above it I liked because your eye tends to follow the plates of cat food down to the writing, which then leads your eye to the name of the company. I chose to use these ideas in my ad. Although the ad looks simple I think
it is successful. I found these ad layouts in a magazine titled Blueprint. The ad were on pages nine and twenty-nine.

Black and White Pencil Drawing

This is a second drawing that I did because I felt that my first was not as good. I definitely like this one better. I enjoyed this drawing.

Black and White Self Portrait

I enjoyed this assignment because it created something different. It was a little easier drawing myself than someone else. The white areas that are shaded are the areas where
the light was hitting my face.

Profile Drawings

These drawings are contour profile drawings, using proportions of the human skull.
These drawings happen to be of two of my friends.

The drawing on the top is of my sister and the bottom one is of my mother. I really enjoy doing this type of drawing because all the proportions turn out right.

People Drawings

These were people sitting at the soccer game Wednesday night.
These people were also sitting and enjoying the game.
For this drawing I was sitting outside of the coffee shop in the EUC and these
two girls were sitting across the hallway.

This drawing was done in the Department of Interior Architecture of one of the
professors and a few students.

The assignment was to complete four drawings of people in different surroundings.

downtown Greensboro

This was the final drawing done downtown. Although this is my least favorite I do like the many windows involved with this building.

downtown Greensboro

This was my third contour line drawing and really enjoyed doing the different triangles on this building.

This was the second of the four contour drawings downtown. I personally like all of the detail in this one.
