Finally things are starting to come together. The shelving units and bench are now attached to the wall. Laura and I are done designing the laptop/food bar and it too has been installed.
The painting on the wall has been started and sketched out. It has been relocated to a different wall from our original plan. The pieces below are the shelves that literally reach outward and grow from the painting. Soon they will be painted to resemble the portion of the image that they relate to. I am so excited to see the final installation once it is on the wall and in the context of the rest of the design.
This is the original design for the eating bar in the middle of the space. Working with elements from the painting installation the design of the bar will speak to the repetition of the organic forms. The design has altered since but is speaks in this nature.
The student lounge in the Maud Gatewood Studio Arts Building, on the UNC-Greensboro campus is undergoing an EXTREME MAKEOVER : IARc style. Currently the lounge has several cafe tables and chairs, and a group study station, but unfortunately the lounge is not satisfying the students that use the building. We are proposing several different elements that will hopefully make the space more inviting and conducive to lounging. Myself along with several other IARc students and art students are designing a laptop station, a bar to sit and eat at, and an area for comfortable seating that allows people to come and enjoy the company of others. Also the main feature of the space will be a painting that is literally growing off the wall. [see more about this feature here]
